Phenomenological and Physiological Properties of ‘Enlightened’ States
A planned project investigating what it is like to experience ‘awakening experiences’ during meditation — moments described across contemplative traditions as qualitatively distinct from ordinary conscious experience. The project aims to characterise both the phenomenological structure (first-person reports, comparison with other altered states) and the physiological signatures (EEG, other measures) of such experiences.
The project would bridge consciousness science, contemplative research, and philosophy of mind.
